Colorado Springs Senior Photography

You're going to be a High School Senior! So many exciting things come to mind...but then, wait! My senior portraits need to be done! Where do I start?

Lots of questions come to mind, not least of which is - "WHAT DO I WEAR?!?"

Aside from "how much is this going to cost", "what do I wear" is the most important question there is when it comes to your session.

What to Wear

Your clothing can make or break your session.

You need to wear clothes that are the best version of you; not what you lay around in while binge watching your favorite show.

I love what Jace selected for her outfits. The clothing she chose not only reflected her personality, but it was something she was comfortable wearing. And the colors went well with the locations we chose.

If you're not comfortable in your clothing, it will show. While there is a seemingly endless list on this subject, here are a few basics.

  • Clean, non wrinkled, no holes clothing. Seems like a no brainer, but be sure to examine all your clothing to make sure it's clean. If it has a hole - ask yourself - "Is it supposed to be there?" If it's not, don't wear it.
  • Bright, neon colors don't photograph well. We want the focus on you, your clothing/settings second.
  • Make sure your hands / nails are clean and trimmed.
  • Outdoor sessions should have clothing choices that are complimentary to our outdoor landscapes. Neutral and royal colors photograph wonderfully. If you're not sure about a particular outfit, just ask!
  • What about shoes? Well, I’ll be honest - flip flops are a no-go. They maybe comfy, but they don’t photograph well. And here in Colorado Springs, we are a far cry from the beach. If you must wear them, wear them in between locations. So take the time to find the right shoes to go with your outfit. For girls, shoes with some sort of heel are always a winner; whether they are dressy, casual, boots, pumps, sassy – whatever your style. For guys, tennis shoes, boat shoes, dress shoes - all look great.
  • Avoid clothing that has bold patterns, logos, slogans or sayings that will make you cringe 5 years from now. Certain things do not hold up over time and can really date your images.
  • Avoid sleeveless tops. Bare arms draw attention away from your face.
  • If you're going to get a haircut, do it at least a week before your session. Don't do anything drastic to your hair right before your session that you will regret having photographed.

While this list is by no means exhaustive, it gives you a starting point for your Colorado Springs high school senior portrait session. I'll have more blog posts on this subject. And don't worry - during the senior portrait consultation we discuss this info in detail.
